Separator

Definition

Microporous insulator between positive and negative plates. PE (polyethylene) envelope separators are standard in SLI. AGM batteries use compressed borosilicate glass mat. Separator properties: pore size (<1um), electrical resistance, oxidation resistance, and puncture strength.

Construction & Design

Backweb with ribs, envelope style, or leaf style. AGM separators compressed to ~20% free volume. PE separator thickness: 0.2-0.5mm backweb.
